Rare 1895 Bicycle Advertising Magic Lantern Slide — T. H. McAllister, New York

A wonderful and unusual 1895 bicycle advertising lantern slide, dating from the exciting early years of the American bicycle era.

The photograph shows a stylish woman with her ladies\' safety bicycle, accompanied by a dog. The bicycle has the characteristic wooden rims of the period, along with a distinctive “Search-Light” bicycle lamp mounted at the front.

The image carries the period advertising wording:

“Bicycle Repairing and Enameling”

There is additional worn lettering around and beneath the bicycle, including what appears to be “Cyclers.”

A small copyright line at the bottom appears to read approximately:

“Copyright 1895 … Brothers Co., Philadelphia, Pa.”

The company name is partly obscured by the age and slight offset between the glass plates, but “Brothers,” “1895,” and “Philadelphia, Pa.” are visible/partially discernible.

The slide itself bears the identification:
