Here is an old Adams and Westlake rare railroad conductor\'s lantern with an original 2 part red over clear glass globe. The globe is marked, \" J. F. Clifford \" and has a wreath decoration below and to the sides of the name. The interior top edge of the red section has some very minor roughness to the surface in one small area but no real chips, cracks or repairs are noted. It has a pronounced ridge where the clear and red glass meet. The lettering and wreath decor appear to be wheel cut as they have some depth. The name also appears to have been somewhat darkly { possibly gold at one time } colored-in but is now missing most of the color. The globe measures 5 inches tall with about a 2 1/4 inch outside diameter red top and 2 5/8 inch outside diameter clear bottom. It has some handmade glass swirl lines in it. A beauty. The lamp itself is only marked on the bottom of the burner and not on the lamp frame itself. It reads, \" The Adams and Westlake Company, Pat. Apr. 26, 64, Chicago, Ill. \" The lamp is about 11 inches tall and 18 inches tall to top of the bail handle. The burner screws into the holder but the holder doesn\'t seem to screw into anything. It just sets there loose. I notice underneath there was some caulking which I suspect secured it or it could be missing some sort of hold down mechanism. In any case that the way it is. The burner is also marked on side, \" Q. Globe \". I assume for Queen globe. The frame was nickel plated at one point but there are only remnants left mostly on the base. The brass is showing through on most all of the lamp. There doesn\'t seem to be any real dents or damage otherwise. This was found at sale in the greater Athens, Ohio area. The frame has no railroad markings anywhere. A rare and fine example.
