TELEGRAPH TELEPRINT SIEMENS YEAR 1912

Curious Siemens & Halske telegraph or teleprinter, manufactured in approximately 1912, in Berlin, Germany.

It was an electrical engineering company founded in 1847 by Werner Siemens and Johann Georg Halske.

The importance of this company was and continues to be vital in the world of communication among many other things.

This curious device that we offer for sale is an electric telegraph with a keyboard with letters and numbers just like a typewriter. It is actually a teleprinter from 1912.

Commercial offices, large hotels and other establishments in Berlin and Hamburg were subscribed to the teleprinter exchange. Each office is equipped with one of the new instruments, and anyone can use itto send messages to another subscriber as they would a typewriter. The connection is first made through the central unit, then all that is needed is to press one of the keys to start. Other keys carry letters and figures, and at the other end a type wheel prints the letters on a strip of paper. The aim is to provide an instrument that anyone can use, and without the training that a typewriter requires. For this reason, the keyboard has theletters arranged in regular alphabetical order. Messages are received even if the case is closed, so no one other than the person holding the key can read them. When it is desired to send a telegram from a business officeto the city telegraph office, this can be done by making a direct connection with the telegraph office, as each subscriber can have a teleprinter placed there in the special room dedicated to this. purpose. In this way, messagesare sent and received directly and without loss of time.

This Siemens & Halske teleprinter has a stepped keyboard with five rows of keys. The letters are arranged in their natural order and with the white key you can write numbers or different signs. It hasa hole where the telegraph paper would be placed (a roll is included) and a lid that protects it. On the left side it has a morse key. As if it were a typewriter, it has a type wheel (in perfect condition) that would printon the paper as we wrote. It has several electrical connections on the back. Its electrical system is complete and does not appear to be missing anything. A wooden casing covers its entire electrical system just as a drawerprotects the entire teleprinter. It is preserved in very good condition. Rare piece, very interesting for a great collector of electrical, scientific instruments, telephones, telegraph systems, typewriters, etc.
