In the 1960's, engineers were eagerly experimenting with the new technology of solid-state - that is, transistors. RCA was one of the first companies to offer a broad line of semiconductor products ranging from consumer electronics to military and radiation-hardened items. I remember using the RCA transistor arrays and radio parts, such as integrated IF amplifiers.
As an engineer, you may feel you are a long way from the 60's-70's technology, but I guarantee that every engineer will find technology new to you and design tips you haven't heard from any other source. These were the pioneers of this industry. They were the first to try out stuff - and they tried out everything. Every imaginable way of hooking 3-terminal devices together was explored.

There is a FULL TEXT INDEX across all volumes. You can search, for instance, for "gate width" or 2N3055 and find every reference from every book with ease.The RCA documentation suite consisted mostly of three kinds. HB-10 was patterned after their documentation for vacuum tubes that was called HB-3 and became the "bible" for tube electronics. HB-10 has separate data sheets for each and every kind of transistor they made at that time (1964). These data sheets are useful even today because they often have tables that are no longer included in transistor documentation.
Then there was the SPD-100 - a four-volume set of binders, each about 2-3" thick. These were not well organized - not like HB-10, but they have information that appears nowhere else. The largest single collection are the numbered data sheets - these were just called "sheet 1", "sheet 2" and so on. There are over 2000 pages of these sheets. It is hard to find anything specific, but you can search for anything using the full-text index. There were also transistors listed by JEDEC part number, such as 2N109, and transistors listed by the RCA proprietary numbering system, such as the 40434. Some of these later got JEDEC numbers.
This collection includes more than 10,000 pages of specifications, applications, product selectors, price lists, and much, much more.
