Hamilton Beach Malt Mixer Parts Switch Contacts 40 940 40dm 940dm 3 spindle:
$15.27

I used to repair, service and restore old malt / milk shake mixers. Accumulated a lot of spare parts over the years and am now going to sell some of my extras.
This listing is for an odd kit of parts that are unique to the classic Hamilton Beach 3 spindle malt mixers (models 40 40dm 940 940dm). The kit is new old stock parts and is used to repair broken (typically missing!) ON/OFF switch contacts. These mixers have 3 separate motors. On top of the mixer each motor has a separate low-med-high speed switch; these switches do NOT turn the motor on and off. The on/off switches for each motor or \"column switches\" are located inside the mixer frame and are actuated by the upper cup guides (metal lip the top of metal malt can is inserted into). See 4th picture.
If one of your mixer motors does not work, it could be for any number of reasons; broken wire, broken speed switch, worn out carbon brush, burned out windings or broken (missing!) column switch contacts. I leave it up to you to determine if the column switch is the culprit. If you remove the backplate of your mixer, it is easy to see the Left and Right column switches and to see if the contacts are there (compare left side to right side). The middle column switch is harder to see/diagnose but you can also listen for the \"click\" of the contacts as you move the switch lever on front of mixer up and down. Also note the white plastic \"actuator lever\" that pushes on the smaller brass piece to actuate the contacts. I have seen a few column switches where this piece has broken off; switch will not work without it!
Each kit contains two brass pieces and one spring. Please see pictures for details. On a lot of mixers, the little spring rusts out or breaks and the two brass pieces then fall out and since most of these mixers do not have a bottom plate (some do), they fall out on the counter below etc and get lost. Normally, each end of the spring is attached to one of the brass pieces and holds/keeps them in place. When installing, use one of the other two column switches as a reference to orient the brass pieces.
Major dis-assembly of your mixer may be required to properly install this kit.I recommend you completely remove the column switch from your mixer to replace the contacts! Maybe you could repair the two side switches (left and right) in place but I still think it would be difficult! I normally fully disassemble my mixers so have never tried to replace these contacts with switches in place. Even with the column switch removed and on a workbench, you may need some precision/miniature tools (eg. typical needle nose pliers are too big to hold spring) and delicate finger work. If you crush the spring, I will charge for another as they are a very uncommon size. The column switches are held in place by the screws that attach the upper and lower cup guides. You may not be able to remove the UPPER cup guide screw without removing the entire top of your mixer (upper and lower motor pans, chrome nameband ring, motors etc). If you need more details let me know.
At some point (1960\'s?) Hamilton Beach came out with a retrofit kit to replace these original switch contacts with a newer \"microswitch\". I do not presently have any of those for sale but see them from time to time for sale on . They utilize the original switch frame but you have to remove the brown board the original switch contacts are mounted on.
These will not fit any other HB malt mixers!
Sorry, malt mixer and column switch pictured are for example purposes only and not included in sale. Sale is for one kit (3 pieces) to repair contacts of one column switch.
