Bought this to flash an MX25L1605 BIOS chip for an Acer laptop. Was not able to find software that would flash a blank chip, but ch341aprog was able to reflash the corrupt original BIOS chip under linux. Neither version 2.2 of the WCH supplied software for the CH341A, nor flashrom-0.9.9, were able to deal with the OTP or reserved BIOS blocks/locations of the blank chip. Obviously you'll need to be familiar or willing to learn about the particular EEPROMs you're programming, but it is said that the 1.18 version of the WCH windows software may handle this problem better, for some reason. I couldn't get the WCH linux driver and command line tool to compile on Fedora 24. You'll have to google for the Chinese-only winchiphead download site for PC, Mac, Linux, and Android drivers and software. For the price, though, this is a versatile tool that will handle a large number of IIC/SPI chips and has lots of other features as well.Read full review

I was told bu MSI that mu motherboard was dead and needed to be replaced. I updated the bios , it said it finished 100% SUCCESSFULLY and yet the board was bricked on reboot. I removed the sop8 flash chip. soldered it to the adapter board that came with this, reprogrammed it and put it back on MB. Now have fully working motherboard again. Its a really useful little device if you have some experience with things like this.
