Does Blackberry 7520 graphically indicate if you have a voice mail waiting? Also, to utilize the software so that I can charge off of USB do I install desktop software, handheld software, both or what?

to charge off of USB you do need to have the desktop software installed, as it needs drivers.

Yes, there is a message indication when you have a voicemail waiting, different then the email one.
